Why We Cycle Bergamot & Berberine (Instead of Taking Them Together)

Why We Cycle Bergamot & Berberine (Instead of Taking Them Together)

If you’ve ever bought our best-selling Fat Loss & Longevity Bundle (or heard me talk about it) or the New Year Cleanse: Gut & Liver Reset, you’ve probably wondered, why do we cycle bergamot and berberine instead of taking them together?

This is one of the most common questions I get. So I wanted to write a blog purely as a reference, because I want you to fully understand why you’re taking the supplements you’re taking, and why I suggest certain routines or structure in the first place.

And the short answer is, we cycle bergamot and berberine because they are both powerful, targeted supplement, and powerful tools work best when used with structure.

When it comes to metabolism, fat loss and blood sugar balance, more doesn’t always mean better, and I’m going to break down exactly why.

Why More Isn’t Always Better for Metabolism

Most people don’t start a fat loss or metabolic protocol from a calm, perfectly balanced baseline.

They usually start with:

  • sensitive digestion (bloating, loose stools, constipation, discomfort).

  • a nervous system that’s been under pressure or stress for a long time.

  • blood sugar swings (energy crashes, cravings, evening snacking).

  • a liver that’s already working overtime (hormones, toxins, alcohol, stress, sugar, food choices… life).

So when strong metabolic support is introduced too quickly, especially two supplements that influence similar pathways, the body can feel like it’s being pushed, rather than supported.

Instead of feeling energised or clearer, this can show up as digestive discomfort, fatigue, or nausea. In simple terms, the body starts reacting rather than responding, which is rarely where long term change happens.

That’s why, in practice, timing and order matter just as much as what you take.

Bergamot-HT Complex First: Building the Foundation

Think of bergamot as the foundational phase of this protocol. Its role is to support the systems that make fat loss and metabolic change feel smoother and more natural, rather than forced.

In particular, it supports:

  • visceral fat reduction (deep internal belly fat).

  • cholesterol and triglyceride balance.

  • liver function and fat metabolism.

  • metabolic flexibility (your ability to switch between burning sugar and burning fat).

This is why bergamot is often considered one of the most effective natural supplements for visceral fat. Instead of suppressing appetite or pushing the body into aggressive calorie restriction, it works underneath, supporting how fats are processed and handled in the first place.

You’ll sometimes hear me describe bergamot as a kind of “primer”. That’s because it helps stabilise the internal environment before asking the body to do anything more demanding. If the liver is sluggish, cholesterol markers are off, and fat metabolism is slow, asking the body to suddenly manage blood sugar perfectly can feel like a big leap. Bergamot helps bridge that gap, supporting metabolic balance first.

It also influences pathways like AMPK (often called the metabolic “master switch”), without pushing blood sugar too hard, which is exactly why it comes first. You can read my blog on all the benefits of bergamot here

Why We Don’t Start With Berberine

Berberine is often the supplement people are most curious about, and understandably so. It’s one of the most researched compounds in the metabolic health world, with thousands of published studies behind it and the most proven supplement to reset insulin and support weight loss in women.

While bergamot and berberine do share some overlap, berberine tends to be more active when it comes to blood sugar regulation, insulin signalling, and healthy shifts in the gut microbiome. And while that can be amazing, it’s also why starting with berberine isn’t always the most comfortable option for everyone.

If digestion is already sensitive, stress is high, and blood sugar is all over the place, berberine can sometimes feel too intense at first, particularly on the gut. This doesn’t mean berberine isn’t right for you, it usually just means the body benefits from preparation first.

So after 30 days, once bergamot has had time to do its job (reduce inflammation and ‘scrub off’ thick, inflammatory visceral fat clogging up our internal organs), the body feels like it’s in a better place to handle the next phase.

Berberine Second: The Metabolic Reset Phase

Berberine builds on the foundation that bergamot creates.

In simple terms, it supports:

  • steadier blood sugar levels (fewer spikes and crashes) .

  • improved insulin sensitivity (your cells responding better to insulin).

  • cravings and appetite signalling (more steady hunger, less chaos).

  • metabolic efficiency (your body using energy more effectively).

It also influences AMPK (the metabolic ‘master switch’, and works on a cellular level as if the body is in a fasting state, which is part of why it’s often talked about in the context of longevity and metabolic health (read more on Berberine's benefits here).

But the most important takeaway is that berberine works best when the system is already supported. This is why we don’t see bergamot vs berberine for weight loss, as they do different jobs at different stages and work in perfect synergy when taken sequentially.

How the Fat Loss & Longevity Bundle works

The Fat Loss & Longevity Bundle follows a simple 60-day cycle, split into two clear phases:

Days 1–30: Bergamot
Take 1 capsule with breakfast and 1 capsule with dinner.

Days 31–60: Berberine
Take 1 capsule 20 minutes before breakfast and 1 capsule 20 minutes before dinner.

*if you forget to take 20 minutes before eating, taking Berberine at the same time is ok, but 20 minutes before is optimal for blood sugar balancing benefits.

If you’re sensitive, the best approach is always to start gently, go steadily, and listen to your body.

So, Why Do We Cycle Them - Simplified?

We do it this way because it’s not about forcing fat loss or shocking the body into change, it’s all about teaching the body how to respond again, so benefits continue even once you stop taking the supplements.

Bergamot teaches the body to handle fats and cholesterol more efficiently, and to take some pressure off the liver. Then berberine teaches the body to respond more strongly to insulin, move glucose differently, and tighten up metabolic signalling.

If you ask the body to do all of that at once, especially when digestion is sensitive, stress is high, or blood sugar is already unstable, it can feel like too much, simply because the system isn’t ready yet.

By cycling them, the body is supported before it’s challenged. First it stabilises, then it adapts, and only then does it optimise. That’s why we don’t take them all at once, and that’s why we cycle bergamot and berberine.

They work in synergy to ‘clean up’ visceral fat, reduce inflammation, enhance liver function, balance blood sugar and improve gut microbiome, so they enhance metabolism, energy and longevity for the long term - even way after you’ve stopped taking them.

Quite simply, they act like an ‘internal reset’ - which is why I highly encourage people to take the Fat Loss and Longevity Bundle for 2-4 months once or twice a year (this is exactly what I do to keep my body lean, energised and primed for longevity!).
